Enterprise Application Services ExtensionTM
|
For enterprises with server-based applications, technologies
that simplify large network administration provide
dramatic benefits. Developed by NTP Software for off-the-shelf
applications or for third-party development, Enterprise
Application Services Extension (EASE) Technology promises
to enable companies to deploy, manage and build enterprise-wide,
server-based applications for Windows NT 4 and Windows
2000/Active Directory networks. In addition, SNMP
messaging provides integration with TNG Unicenter
and Tivoli. Future releases will support Unix.

EASE includes an Active Directory-compatible hierarchical
user interface that lets you view and manage all of
your EASE-enabled applications. Using drag-and-drop,
this concept of hierarchical inheritance allows you
to define the properties for server applications at
different levels in the hierarchy.

EASE Architecture |
| A Management Infrastructure and Development
Platform for Distributed Applications |
|
When you install an EASE-enabled application,
you also install the software that supports the EASE environment
and the EASE data store. EASE holds the configuration data for all
the EASE-enabled applications installed on a server and replicates
your configuration properties to every server with EASE-enabled
applications in the network. Any subsequent EASE-enabled application
you you install uses the existing EASE environment and can bring
new enhancements to the existing EASE infrastructure.

EASE and Windows NT 4 |
|
Many organizations will not be able to
immediately upgrade to Windows 2000, but still have a need for enterprise
management. EASE enables the enterprise management of server-based
applications in a Windows NT4 network or mixed networks by providing
the hierarchical data store and enterprise structure. EASE includes
its own interface, data store, data replication scheme, and enterprise
reporting. Implementing today with EASE facilitates a later migration
to Windows 2000, as EASE-enabled applications continue to function
unchanged as they move from Windows NT4 to Windows 2000/Active Directory.

|
EASE and Windows 2000/Active Directory |
|
Active Directory centralizes information
about network resources and users and serves as the central authority
for network security, letting the operating system readily verify
a user's identity and control his or her access to network resources.
EASE is designed and built to interface seamlessly with Active Directory.
In an Active Directory environment, you continue to use the EASE
hierarchy of server-based applications you defined in your EASE
interface, but you can use the Active Directory data store for your
server configuration data and rely on the Active Directory data
replication mechanism.
